SOCCER DAY PRETORIA DEPOT: 15 April 2016
The goal: Team building and fundraising – all proceeds went to the i-Foundation at Intercape Pretoria (feeding and caring for children in 4 countries).
Last Friday ‘kicked off’ sporting lovely weather. Thanks to Ronnie Deyzel, Judy Coetzee and their team, the field looked great (nets up, lines drawn, potholes filled up).
The following teams took part: Washaways (Team Manager: Andrew Brummer); Super Technics (Team Manager: Johan Pienaar); Smooth Operators (Team Manager: Philip Nortjé) and Mighty Cleaners (Team Manager: Shaun Smeda).
A big thank you and appreciation to Andy Jacobs, who acted as coach and referee for the day, and well done to players Jerry Maluleka and Welcome Khumalo who initiated soccer at Intercape Pretoria.
Koketso Mmotong, former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder and founder of Koketso Mmtong Football Foundation and Gregory Mashilo, former Banyana Banyana coach, also attended the event and handed out medals to the winning team.
After a tough game between Washaways and Smooth Operators, the Wash Bay team ended in the first place – congrats to Andrew Brummer and his team as well as runners up Smooth Operators from Ops with Philip Nortjé. It was a close call.
Shaun’s Mighty Cleaners was nominated as the team with the greatest team spirit and Team Manager who did the most effective marketing of his team (bribery not discounted).
Traditional food was cooked and served by Palesa Sathakge and Victoria, as well as boerewors rolls on the coals by Dawie Kirk. During the break we saw Touch Rugby, showing off the sporting talent of Intercape.Special thanks to Palesa Sathakge for initiating this lovely (and future recurring) event, Judy Coetzee for organising the chairs, power supply, food trays, etc. etc, Patrick Mafela and the InterCafé team for bread rolls, ice, cool drinks, chocolates. We also treasure every volunteer: Khomotso Rapetswa (sound, gazebos, DJ and MC), Renette Jacobs (tickets), Jolindie Ferreira (selling snacks), Sunet Malan and Marili Engelbrecht (entrance tickets), Henco Vanton (Covaan Photography), Lizandra Meiring (printing & design) as well as each spectator who took the time to buy a ticket and support this event. Without all of you this day would not be possible.
